The one thing that the Democrats don’t get is balance and equilibrium. When people like John Edwards brazenly declare new taxes on the “rich” as part of what he thinks is right, they have nearly no comprehension of the consequences of all of this.

The “rich” as the Democrats describe them–which is also ironic because Democrat politicians are quite rich–are the ones that give the lower and middle class jobs. When you increase taxes on them, you inhibit their ability to hire more people. In fact, you tax enough and you cut into their profit margin enough, they’ll start firing people. The unemployment rate does not go down because of this, believe it or not. It does not mean that the “rich” will hire more people out of the kindness of their hearts. They would be taxed more and more out of capital they could use to hire more. We have the lowest unemployment rate in a decade for a reason.

Why is it that Democrats nearly always act or spout rhetoric on emotion, just so they can feel good at the cost of something more reasonable and sensible? Ugh. Another thing that people don’t comprehend is that these entitlements are going to lead to more taxes for all of us. Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security can’t be sustained merely by the “generous contributions” of the rich.

When we pay 80% of our wages towards entitlements to support the Baby Boomers, and we’re all in the poor house because of it, at least we’ll feel good, eh?

You learn something new every day. I was looking at my mortgage stuff, to check out all of the tax information (UAH FINALLY sent my W2. w00t!), and it said on the top of my escrow account summary that “Our records indicate that your account is impounded.”

I didn’t realize what impounded meant, and my knee jerk reaction was to pack up my things and head to Mexico. lol. Well, maybe not that bad, but I didn’t realize that’s what they called a mortgage that has an escrow.

For better, or for worse, Vista is now being installed on my desktop. Hopefully it will not be for worse, but I go in with full knowledge and cognizance that it might be. Early adopters, I truly believe as a lot of Slashdotters do, are Gamma testers. Smoothers of bugs that the Beta testers didn’t find.

So far, so good, though. I remember when installing XP for the very first time years back, running into blue screens on installation. This has been quite stable. Fairly fast, too. It looks like it will, in the end, have taken about 45 minutes or so. My system as been really rock solid up to now, though. I have built a good one. I hope it performs with the grace of an olympic ice skater under Vista, and not with the ugly horror of me falling on my ass on the ice 😀

I’ll post more about game and 3dMark performance later.

I think Star Trek: Nemesis really is the worst Star Trek movie ever. It has officially replaced Star Trek V at the top of the list. It was like Rick Berman was giving fans the middle finger. I’m so glad he reportedly has no involvement whatsoever in the next Star Trek film.

So, here are plans for the new mall that’s going up in Huntsville. A couple curious things about it are that it appears to be mainly one-story, and it looks like there’s absolutely jack there in terms of electronic stores. One saving grace is that it does have a Barnes & Noble, but there’s already one right down the road from there as it is. As a mall…bleh 😛 I mean, I guess it’s ok, if you’re a clothes whore–but I know even girls who have more to buy than clothes 😛 I do applaud the presence of a Swarovski, though. My mom really likes their ornaments. I think I heard something about the new theatre having 48 screens, but might be just a rumor–and I also heard that it’s no longer Regal that’s doing it, but we’ll see.

Holy cow, it’s the weekend already 😀 Just have a Friday to trudge through and then it’s WoW paradise. I got Burning Crusade the day it came out. My mage hasn’t leveled much yet, mainly because I’ve been exploring the new lands more than concentrating on leveling–he’s only 3 bars into 60. I did make a Blood Elf lock, though. The minions make the funniest comments when you sick them on enemies like “Is this really necessary”, and “This is not in my contract!”

I’m thinking of ditching my desktop and staying exclusively with a laptop. My laptop, at this point, out performs my desktop in a number of ways. About the only thing it lacks in, compared to my desktop, is drive space. I could make up for that on my webserver by having the two drives that are now in my desktop over there, and having a central file repository. I’d keep a desktop around, obviously, for my web/file server. It just seems to me that hardware for portable computers has become so analogous to their desktop counterparts that they’re just about one and the same in terms of performance–in fact, my laptop does better at 3dMark. I’ll be getting Vista for it fairly soon, though truth is I probably won’t install it until SP1 😀

The big downside to this, of course, is the possible lack of upgradability–I’d have to look into any possibilities of upgrading the video card in it. RAM isn’t a problem, of course, and I think the hard drive as well.

I don’t know, maybe it’s a foolish consideration. But, then again, it’s just in the consideration phase at this point 🙂
