I’ve been playing World of Warcraft for the past few nights. It is such a frelling awesome game. I only play for about an hour or so a night. I’ve gone up at least a level every night since Friday, and I’m up to Level 7. My character is a Human Mage. It looks like you can have a number of characters for free, so I might start someone else of a warrior class or something. This game is a whole different world from EverQuest or Final Fantasy XI–in this game it’s not just a matter of going around killing big huge rats or wolves, but major leveling comes from all of the quests that you take on. If I go about an hour every night like I have, I will be level 30 by the middle of next month. I’m in no hurry, especially because I don’t want this game to burnout quickly. It takes moderation–and Half-Life: 2 in-between 🙂

So, just about every night for a while in some capacity, I’ve been in a place called the Vortex. It’s nothing but an AIM/Yahoo chat room that was initially spawned by pktaxwench and continued by just about all of us. I got a webcam, mostly at the behest of altafass, since she had one and couldn’t see me. Since then, we have brought video and audio to our Vortex. It’s good to have the Vortex in the 21st Century 🙂

I’m glad this week is almost over. Because of the kewlness of the Vortex and World of Warcraft, I have only gotten 6 hours of sleep every night this week. I can get pretty cranky if I don’t get my full 8, so it’s quite fortunate for those around me that they still live 😉 I got a nap yesterday evening, but naps never really do it for me. I go to sleep for about 20 minutes and almost always wake up with a headache. Argh.

Anyhoo, off to do some of the work thing.

Congrats to those who got LJ back up. I can only imagine how hellish that feat was.

Lots of not to much has been going on since my birthday. I started playing some World of Warcraft last nite. It seems like a frelling good game, so far. But, that’s not saying much; I haven’t gotten beyond the first quest. I’m loading it on the laptop as I write, and also watching ROTK again..

I’ve been getting some kewl software for my new Tungsten E. My first Palm device was a Handspring Visor Deluxe. I had two Pocket PCs thereafter, and have come back home. Palm has come so far since I last saw it. My particular device runs Palm OS 5.2.1. The Visor I had ran 3.1. You can do just about anything with this Tungsten that you could with either one of the Pocket PCs I had. It’s just amazing *drools in geek contentment*

Poor little Penny was sick the other day. She threw up once, but hasn’t again since. I’m hoping she just swallowed something that she nibbled that didn’t agree with her. I need to take her to the vet sometime soon. I’ve had her a little over a year now, and she probably needs a checkup anyway.

Saw Battlestar Galactica last night. It looks like it’s going to be an extremely awesome series. I can’t wait to see more of it. Still getting used to Starbuck being a chick 🙂

1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the sentence in your own bulletin…along with these instructions.
5. Don’t search around and look for the “coolest” book you can find. Do what’s actually next to you.

(not next to me, but nearest book)
If each record includes a large amount of satellite data, we often permute an array of pointers to the records rather than the records themselves in order to minimize data movement.

Today was one of those days. I was in the zone. I could code nothing wrong. lol. It’s kind of kewl; I programmed a timetracking system for my the Center, and I’ve been coding some upgrades for it, and now another Center on the University wants to use it. w00t. It’s definitely kewl when your software gets wide use.

Nothing much has been going down, really. I think I’ve decided to get a bike, though.. Perhaps sometime within the next month. I haven’t really gotten a new bike since middle school, maybe early high school. So, I’m definitely not starting out with the uber top of the line. I’m thinking about a Giant Iguana, or perhaps a Cannondale Jekyll. If any of you bike riders have any other good entry-level bikes, lemme know 🙂

Anyhoo.. Off for some Counter-Strike. w00t.

This has really been an uberly nice weekend of relaxation. It was definitely awesome, since I’ve been running around here and there and everywhere the last couple of weeks. The running around was definitely worth every moment, but it’s definitely quite nice to have had a weekend to recover 🙂

I watched Battlestar Galactica this afternoon after getting it from Wal-Mart last night. It was better watching it the second time 🙂 I only hope the series will do it justice. I have my fingers crossed. The storyline seems more coherent than the original 70s version, and the characters seem much more real to me. It’s definitely a good beginning. We’ll see.

Now.. On with the show!! Here are some kewl people, and why I think they’re uber spiffy..

  • garibaldicu: 9 years definitely goes by quite fast. I’m definitely glad that I spent that time being your friend, whether from across town or across the country. I’m glad to have a fellow geek as such a good friend. You are kewl because you’ve been a constant companion in a good bit of my life, and I hope that you are there for years to come–and that we’ll argue about the newest processors and FSB speeds in the wheelchair races in the Old Folks Home. haha.
  • pktaxwench: Getting introduced to you back in 1998 was the most awesome experience. Not only did I whoop you a bit in laser tag *snicker*, but I also eventually got a very good friend out of the deal. I hope you’re just as constant in my life as Joe and all my friends have been. What makes you most awesome is your ability to understand the male psyche. It’s something I’ve never known in a girl before, and it makes you a most powerful instrument of kewlness. You’ve made me understand a good bit about myself. And you’re as fun a person to be around as any geek 🙂
  • altafass: I haven’t known you for very long, but you are most definitely the shiznit. You seem to be a very nice and sweet girl, and I hope that you will be a good friend for years to come, as well–in the Vortex and on Earth 🙂 What makes you very kewl is your ability to go where everyone has gone before–beating me at Literati. lol. I also agree with Joe in that you’re very funny. You’re definitely worthy to be a GiT 🙂
  • catgurl24: I’ve known you a good little bit through that geekish place called IRC. It’s people like you that make me glad that I’m an IRC geek 🙂 I hope that we keep in touch for years to come, even if IRC goes the way of the do-do. What makes you kewl is that you’re a great bit of proof to me that being online can definitely bring people of great distance together, even without having ever met.
  • laxducky: I only met you on New Year’s Eve, but I can already tell that you’re a pretty rocking person. You’re a sports chick, which is definitely a plus for any guy (geek or otherwise). What makes you really cool, though, is your inner strength. You’ve been through a lot within the past few months, and you seem to be taking it all relatively well–at least if your LJ really has anything to say about it. Plus you can put up with me full of Soju and still be sane 🙂

Well, anyhoo.. The week starts tomorrow *sigh* Maybe this week will go by as fast as the last. I can’t believe I’ll be twenty-frelling-six on Wednesday. How crazy is that? Maybe I could stop the clock right there or something. As if I could be that lucky 😉 Heck, I’m lucky enough that I can still see w/o glasses. hehe.

I bought my first MP3 today. It was $0.99 and I got it via Windows Media. I bought Breakaway by Kelly Clarkson, mainly because I saw a reference to it on garibaldicu‘s LJ and the song got in my head for the rest of the day. Argh. Anyhoo, the file was in WMA with copy protection. I burned it to CD, and then I ripped it from there to mp3 (a non copy-protected mp3) so I could put it on my mp3 player. It worked out great in the end. And thus closes my long bout against the music industry. I still think that individually MP3s (or WMAs or M4Ps or whatever) should be no more than $0.75 or so, but at least the music industry is doing a little better in terms of digital distribution of content. And I can still be my geeky self and put the music on my devices 🙂

The main reason I did this was because of what has been going on with bittorrent. I’ve used it, and downloaded a whole bunch of stuff. Then things really started going down for bittorrent and the favorite server of mine was shut down. I don’t know; maybe that was a bit of a wake-up call for me, in terms of things really starting to fly apart with wide-open free-for-all p2p. I haven’t been downloading much in the last couple of years, compared to what I used to. It’s awesome, though, that I can once again buy music without having to worry about buying an album with only 2-3 songs that I’m interested in.

Anyhoo, if this makes me less geek, then it’s totally worth it 😛

I’m definitely glad it’s Friday. I am so going to sleep in tomorrow. I am totally in need of a good slumber. This’ll be the first weekend in a while were I can just sleep-in and chill. w00t 🙂

I found out yesterday that my great aunt died.

She lived Chicago, so we only got to see her about once a year or so–whenever we happened to make our way up that way. The last time that I saw her was around Thanksgiving. I’m definitely glad that I got to see her that one last time. She was like a third grandmother; I’ve known her since I can begin to remember things.

I’m not as sad as I think I’d be if it was someone immediate, like my parents or brother or anything–probably because of the great distance, and that I only saw her once a year or so. Still, she was such an awesome family member. I’m definitely going to miss her.

Sitting here in DIA, waiting for my flight back to the boonies of Bama. Cost me 10 frickin bucks to hook up to their wi-fi. That is just way too frelling much. People who stop into airports are usually there for a few hours at a time. AT&T is charging $10.00 per 24 hours is just insane. ARGH!! To top all of that off, I was told at the ticket counter that I am allowed only one carry-on from Denver. I took two on-board from Huntsville w/o problem. WTF?

Anyhoo, had an extremely kewl and wonderful weekend. Got to see Joe, Christine & Pete again and I got to meet a couple of other kewl people. Joe’s significant other(?) is a very nice girl, and cute on top of that. Go Joe 😉

Christine & Pete’s house is quite uber spiffy. They have a pretty darn good view of the mountains, and especially Pike’s Peak–which is kind of hard to miss in Colorado Springs.

New Year’s Eve was quite awesome, although a whirlwind which I really don’t remember much of. I don’t even remember the ball drop, which Joe says I was most certainly conscious for. Soju is evil 😉 He has a nice place, and 6 of us spread out quite comfortably in various places to “sleep”. I need to come back out here again soon, especially when I have more time to chill for a while–like a week.

Anyhoo–my headphones were in my other bag, which was checked in. Going to go hunt down some cheap ones in the shops. Argh..
